We have a project that could benefit from the combined brains of our nerdiest members.

Please post the following in this thread:

-the nerdiest phrases/comments you can think of.

We will be using the comments / phrases that are the most nerdy, as judged by us, in a fun little side project meant to draw attention to the site.

Please note that by posting these comments in this thread, you are agreeing to allow us to use them as we see fit, in this project.

OK, big brains, post away.

Posted:     Post subject: Nerdy words and suggestion

My nerdy words are:
Why use neural networks for text recognition, when they work just as well in audio and video chat.

Suggestion:
Have a response button after each post in a string. If you want to repond to the initial post, you do not go to bottom to do that, you go to end of that post. If you want to respond to a person who has commented perhaps at message 5 in a 10 string set of messages, you click the RESPOND button after message 5, not at the end of the set of 10 messages. Feel free to treat this as a set of nerdy words too, if you like.

So Kandy and afr, I applaud you--I am in another category of nerds, perhaps even a quasi nerd. I would perhaps call myself a school nerd. I was thinking of movies with great intelligence and/or interesting theories and thought of "Pi." I don't know, to mathematicians this may be sort of basic. Here's the quote:

Maximillian Cohen: 11:15, restate my assumptions: 1. Mathematics is the language of nature. 2. Everything around us can be represented and understood through numbers. 3. If you graph these numbers, patterns emerge. Therefore: There are patterns everywhere in nature.

I got it from imdb.com--great site if you haven't seen it.

Posted:     Post subject: the nerdiest phrases/comments you can think of

The nerdiest word is, "appropriate". I got sent to a place that was too square and the staff members called anything grown-up or fun by this word. "It's inappropriate to touch each other" and "It's inappropriate to speak to each other loudly" are examples of how the word is used. I thought; appropriate for mental ------? And, who is this person kidding?

Another nerd phrase is, "sheman". Mormon people are definately nerds and they like to shout, "I see a sheman". Stuck-up Mormon nerds like to call you Sheena in a public place because they know it causes embarassment. I try to talk to the people who say this but they are impossible idiots because their own style of dress is so poor.

How about, "psychotic"? Every psychotic I ever saw was a deadbeat in a rag. Astute psychologists obviously mean person having a lapse in reasoning ability. But there are people saying, "that other person is psychotic" over any little thing. "A little bit scary" or "upsetting" is what I think most people mean when they say psychotic.

"I really liked the new Weird Al video White & Nerdy, but they wrote Schrodinger's wave equation with the Planck Constant instead of the Dirac Constant! That little line on the cursive "h" is what makes the Dirac Constant so fun, and without it the equation doesn't work! Shame, Weird Al. Shame."

And an even nerdier response:

"More importantly they wrote -(e^2/r) instead of +V(r) for the potential energy operator. Were you even paying attention? Way to not realise what the actual equation was."

Looking at some of these responses, I may not be smart enough to be in here. Is there an IQ requirement?

Was it the h-bar comment that put you in doubt, Fringey?

h-bar (Dirac's constant) is just h (Planck's constant) divided by
2 pi.

And IQ is meaningless -- it's too grounded in cultural bias.
A very bright Klingon would do poorly on US IQ testing.

Speaking of which, if you want to be nerdy and show off a little,
too, just post something in Klingon.

You mean something like "Hab SoSlI' Quch!", "nuqDaq 'oH puchpa''e'" or " nuq Daq yuch Dapol "? Just cause I want to see how many folks here know Klingon, I will give you the interpretations in a couple of days. Hints:
One is an insult and the other two are very imprtant phrases to know in Klingon if you are ever at a sci fi con!
