Yeah, books and movies each have their strong and weak points. I don't claim that any one is better than the other; I think that has to be done on a case by case study.
I like movies because they have eye candy I can enjoy. But books allow me to get into the characters head. I remember when I was a child watching Star Wars and thought Vader was just evil. Then I read the books too and the authors descriptions allowed me to see inside and understand better. But either one is a story to me. So as long as I'm entertained.
And as for video games adaptations, I remember around the time the first Tomb Raider came out there was someone complaining because Lara never went around picking up health canisters. Although I would watch a movie like that (it would be funny) it's not very practical.

It is fun to me, though, to see a video game adaptations that try to incorporate the most defining ideas and themes from the games into movie moments. Again, I thought they did this really well in Super Mario Bros., having managed to include things like the power-up mushroom, and the fire flower and perhaps even stuff like kuribo's shoe (a rare power-up from SMB3) depending on your interpretation. The way they worked those things was clever and rewarding for a fan audience, but not slavishly faithful to the source material.

`I've never seen the movie but now I really want to! Sounds like a very unique experience to say the least.
And I don't think that the movie has to be a slave to the game. I remember all the bad mouthing that the Final Fantasy movie got when it came out. And it really shouldn't have. That's one of the things about the series is that all the games are different from each other while still retaining some small elements like Cid or Shiva. I thought the movie did that well. The story was different like all the games, yet kept, well, Cid that I know of at least.

`Even though I clearly love it, I can't really recommend it. For whatever reason, it seems like most people really hate it.

You're talking about Spirits Within, right? As opposed to Advent Children? Those are two very different takes on FF, with SW coming out like a pretty mundane and throwaway sci-fi flick, while AC managed to at least appease fans of FF7.

`Yeah, I was talking about spirits within. I think it makes a better stand alone than Advent Children. With AV you have to know something of the story that came before it for it to make sense.
Then there is Last Order. Which I thought was pretty cool. I kind of liked it better than AV actually.

`^Not me.

I've not even heard of it, and I'm not at all inclined to IMDB it.

drklaw, I agree. They did make SW a more complete singular experience. I think the idea was to appeal to more than just fans of the games. It was a noble aspiration.

`I've never seen it either, but I did IMDB it and I have to say it looks funny. But that's just because I'm partial to laugh at old films and B movies.
And that's the way I was looking to put it garsh. Those were the words I was looking for. Now I just got to go watch the Tomb Raider movies and complain about them:) But I'm not really a big fan of Angelina Jolie. Her lips always scared me:|

Here's a topic to get people talking. Anyone try Mountain Dew Voltage? I can't get enough of this stuff recently.

I had an opportunity to try this drink recently because the marketing company i work for picked up the campaign from Mountain Dew for the product so we started getting cases around the office. I had tried Revolution a little while back but Voltage has really grown on me.

Also it keeps me up since I raid in WoW on a server in a different time zone.

`Haven't even heard of Mountain Dew "Voltage" until now. We don't even have Mountain Dew here! How does it taste? Guaraná based? or caffeine?

I personally love the flavor. I know it has ginseng in it as all the choices in last summers Dewmocracy had ginseng. Insofar as taste I would say it tastes distinctly grape-ish.

No Mountain Dew? Where do you live?

`Its weird, the forums on a lot of the Passion sites went dead at the same time. I used to post something faithfully almost everyday on other passion sites. But then college started, and my life ended lol
