Saving up as much as possible, since being in the military means that you have virtually no overhead to worry about. I plan on using the G.I. bill when I get out and going to school full time. That gives you a basic allowance for housing that's not spectacular, but you can make it work if you're careful.

Some advice I've been given and some of my own.....
You need to get yourself in an career field that not only brings in an income that can keep you stable, but also isn't likely to be gone tomorrow.
If you stick to selling unnecessary crap, you're going to sink.
It's also like Settlers of Catan; you've got to diversify and put yourself in as many areas with a likelihood of bringing in resources. In other words, find a company that has a diverse client base, a diverse market and a variety of services so if one starts to lag, you're not at total risk of failing completely. You'll still have other things to keep you afloat. Once you lose one, don't wait for another one to go. Always look at what else you can do with the resources you already have.
You need a backup for you backup's backup plan.
There's a lot more to dealing with a s---ty economy, and you can't always find a decent job. You've just got to be smart, ask for advice and sometimes you might just have to ask for help.
