yups sound is indeed a result of vibration our ears response to sound that way ..
but the falling tree will indeed cause vibrations as its sorrounded by mediums earth and air (as long as we are not talking about vaccuum) , but even there if it has to fall gravity and a solid surface is still there so we do have a medium for vibration to travel .
but indeed as in said question no one / thing is there to absorb or measure or hear those vibrations they will keep on going and decreasing till they become 0 at infinity :shock:
