On This Site for Dating?...

Well, have hope, I guess. Now I'm not saying that internet dating is always perfect or even a good idea for everybody. But, personally, I DID happen to find somebody on this site and we met in reality and well....figure the rest out for yourselves (God knows I have to.)

Anyway, the point is that if your looking for a mate on the internet (like I did) don't just go thinking that it's all oddballs and stalkers, and it's probably not as hard to find somebody as you'd think. Although, the opposite is true; you probably shouldn't be putting up your social security everywhere, or thinking that somebody who's right for you will just fall into your lap...although mine sort of did....but whatever...

Anyway, happy hunting, and have hope. Unless your just here to find nerd-pals in which case....why not just go to facebook or myspace or something?.....lord.....

I have successfully dated on the internet in the past, it is most certainly possible. I even managed to build a successful relationship of two years out of an internet connection as well, and the two of us are still on good terms now that we've had to move apart from each other.

Some basic guidelines apply:

1) when first meeting this person, ignore the shame you might feel and tell a trusted friend where you're going, when, and for how long. Tell them to expect a call just before and just after.

2) Most online meeting places recommend meeting somewhere public first. I have yet to require this step and have always either met at my place or hers, even if we eventually go to a public area. If you are flying, you don't have much choice.

3) speaking of flying, you should have a large amount of online interaction with someone you are planning to fly to meet. Instant messaging, long phone conversations, read each other's blog, etc. If you're into something like phone --- or other more intimate than usual internet activity, you should certainly be willing to do any of those things before making a big trip.

4) like any relationship, good communication of expectations is important, and all standard relationship advice like wrapping it up applies.
