The best way to open any paper, treatise, discussion, movie, or any other medium meant to hold the attention of people and possibly solicit a response, is the open with an debateable statement of some sort. Unfortunately, i'm not gonna' do that. i'm just gon' speak the truth. Geeks are it. Nerds are fine i suppose, and dorks are cool when they're not embarrassing you, but a geek always gets it done right, and that's whats up.

pretty much they are all sort of intelectuals. nerds know alot but its mostly book learning, stuff colleges look to see if you had big grades in. Geeks know alot about technology or most of the time generally useless topics unless you find someone else interested in said topic (exmple: comics, otaku, movies). and dorks do a fast assed job at pretending they have the kinds of knowledges the other two have, but usually they are fairly smart.

Shockingly I agree with that. I'm a nerd and we are definatly more colleged based. As for geeks, I always thought of them as the type to go to some star wars convention, not that that isn't interesting to. And dorks. Come on...are they even in the same catagory as us? Seriously.

I know I am a geek. Mostly because I have tons of useless information downloaded into my head for almost any topic. But Im not totaly computer savey, know more than half my friends, but not as much as the others.

I work for Geek Squad and part of the training is learning the culture of Geek Squad. I agree fully with the explanation my trainer gave on what geek is. Geek is just the broad term, but anyone that's passionate about something can be considered a geek.

I love computers so I would be considered your average computer geek. I have a good friend that is in the military and he talks about it all day and half the stuff I don't understand so he would be a military geek. I have another friend that loves cars, all he ever talks about and I can't understand him either, so he would be an automotive geek.

So pretty much even though they don't care to admit it, anyone can be a geek

Dear Josh:
We've been called all three, and to be honest, we always assumed they meant the same thing. However, according to the cool kids, there are differences.
Official definitions for nerd, geek, and dork each use the words "inept" and "foolish." Nerds have the added distinction of being "unattractive." Ouch. While it's hard to argue with the dictionary, we sought out definitions from the Internet at large.
According to Whatis.com, nerds are people of above-average intelligence who place little importance on their appearance. Nerds are often aware of their status, but they don't mind. In fact, many take pride in the putdown, as it means they're smart and not wrapped up in superficial worries.
Geek is a more specific term. Back in the day, geeks worked at carnivals, and (according to the dictionary) "bit the heads off live chickens." Thankfully, the term now has a different connotation. Like nerds, geeks are smart, but they tend to focus more on technology. As Urban Dictionary explains, these are the people you make fun of in high school and later work for as an adult.
Being called a "dork" is the biggest insult of the three. There's no way you can spin it into something positive. After all, even the dictionary writes that dorks are "stupid" people. And to make matters worse, dorks assume they're cool. Oh, and they smell, too.
So, to sum things up, if someone calls you a geek or a nerd, thank them. If someone calls you a dork, consider going back to school and investing in some new deodorant

First you left out dweebs but more on them in a minute.

In the Supreme Court ruling regarding Nerds v. Geeks et. al., the hierarchy goes like this: Nerds, Geeks, Dweebs, then Dorks.

Nerds are at the top of the food chain, they set the tone for the intellectual universe. There was no movie called Revenge of the Geeks! Geeks are merely nerd wannabe’s. They have similar intelligence but lack focus and are therefore constantly getting caught
up in their own archaic thoughts. Dweebs, these people usually come in at 20 IQ points under Nerds. They have ZERO coordination and make nerds look like jocks! Finally, dorks… what can I say, they have the intelligence of a jock and the social acumen of a dweeb. We all feel bad for dorks but silently thank God for making them the first target of mean comments.

I suppose if you really like to classify things into sub-categories of sorts, I guess that's a way to do it...

But, I would like to bring forward the fact of Geeks are making major impacts in computer science and the like. I'm probably more geeky than anything because, as said before, nerds are just generally smarter and not really into the tech side a much (or so we like to believe). I'm a slacker, so I like to say geek. And besides, isn't it more fun being a geek? Geek chic, yo!

I think I fit more into the nerd category than anything else, although I am pretty good with computers for having no training for them. But, I would really classify myself as rocker nerd. Into all the hard rock but also into sci fi and comics.

I just bought myself a PT Cruiser, trading in my POS 16+ year old minivan. The salesman was amused by all the KISS stickers on the van, my KISS checkbook, my KISS wallet (I AM a General in the KISS Army, after all!), etc. I told him it would not be an hour before the new Cruiser had KISS stikers on it. He laughed. About two hours later, when I had to go back to the dealer with some paperwork, he almost fell over whne saw KISS stickers on the newly christened Blue Beauty, KISS Kruiser. I had been holding onto 8 stickers I bought in Myrtle Beach when I went to the grand opening of the KISS Coffeehouse this summer, just to put on my new car when I got it. Yep. I AM a rocker nerd!!!!
