Why I'm a nerd:
1) On a Friday night I would rather watch a marathon on one of my favourite shows than go out.
2) I'm such a huge CSI nerd that I travelled all the way from Toronto to Providence,RI to meet William Petersen with fans all over the world...And we met him... lol
3) I feel more comfortable on the internet then anywhere else.
4) I grew up on a computer...
5) In film school I would rather be editing on any computer than doing group work.
6) I have no clue how to interact properly with "popular" individuals...
7) I want to have a relationship with any of the guys on the television show "Beauty and the Geek."...Any season.
Hmmm there could be more! lol

I'm not sure if I'm a nerd per se - because I'm not super smart. Maybe a little bit above average. I'm not real good at math or computers, don't play video games, not a huge fan of comics or sci fi.
However, I do love movies and quote lines from them often. I used to play tournament chess. I love progressive heavy metal and a lot of the bands I listen to - the "popular" people I work with have never heard of. I'm over 40, divorced, and don't have a lot of confidence when it comes to the ladies. I spend a lot of time on the internet. I'm a true "sports geek". I follow my team faithfully. I also do the thing that men over 40 "SHOULD NEVER DO". That is....wear a jersey of my sports team.
I don't know, maybe I'm more geeky than nerdy. I don't think I'm a dork however because I shower and brush my teeth every day.

1. I organize the literature I read by country of origin and time period and read according to my organization. I am currently reading Russian novels from the 1700s and 1800s. Before this I read collections of American poetry from the 1970s to the present. Before that I read Scandinavian drama from the first half of the twentieth century.
2. I love studying formal logic. I write the logical form of all arguments I encounter to consider their validity. I make jokes in the form of logical proofs and distribute them to unsuspecting students.
3. When making a point I tend to speak in technical philosophical terms. Ex: "Is consciousness a necessary and sufficient condition for identity? Or is it merely a necessary condition? Or neither?"
4. I can recite a good deal of poetry on command including some Shakespeare, Poe, Frank O'Hara, Bernadette Mayer, John Ashbury, Louis Aragon and a few of my own pieces.

i make lists of things to EVERYTHING to do in my day just so i can have the satisfaction of crossing something off my list (yeah this is somewhat OCD -like but i definatley don't have OCD)
i pscyhoanalyse EVERYTHING
i like people watching (no im not a dirty pervert stalker)
i say lines from movies in conversations
i watch films that know one seems to have heard of..ever
i read more than the average person - but not nearly as much as i want to.
i still get amazed at how simple and pointless peoples conversations are that if i know they don't /won't /can't talk about books, politics or their general views on certain issues - then i prefer not to talk to them and read my book instead
i love the word "tubular"
i get annoyed if i get 90-something percent on an assignment- COME ON it was so worth 100
i've proved to myself that i can still get killer grades on exams without studying - but still i study.
when im wearing my glasses -im constantly pushing them up my nose.
'people' don't really talk to me coz im a nerd. but nerds don't talk to me coz they assume i'm 'one of those types'
i say "OWNED!"
i write poems about authors.
i dont think im smart enough to be a nerd - but most people i meet are dumb.
it bothers me that my IQ is in the "well above average" range and not in the genius range.
if someone can't teach me something - i prefer not to associate with them.
i correct my teachers on a regular basis.

`Without mentioning previous geek-ness that has already been stated that I also have in common with:
-it is not uncommon for my friends and I to have LOTR or anime nights..actually I would call them "marathons"
-D&D nights as well (but it's been awhile...*sigh*)
-I read. A lot. I can go through an entire novel in one sitting. So called "speed-reader" or what have you. Which is not common to you guys here, but seems to be uncommon with other people around me.
-My university has a Gamers Anonymous Club.
-Super Nintendo game nights.
I can't think of anything else right now that hasn't already been said. Word.

`Like others here, I like LOTR, sci fi, comics, some anime (Hellsing ftw!) reading, and gaming. I've been an Oblivion modder for almost two years and I both model and texture; my current project is a shop for undead characters plus some new undead races. I love zombies and more articulate revenants; I absolutely adore the whole concept of death knights. One of my differences from traditional fantasy gamers is that I don't care for elves.
I don't program and my interest in things of that nature is limited (can't even get my Oblivion scripts to work, dang it), but I do find hardware fascinating (built my current computer and expect to build the next one). I'm also a fan of some other less conventional interests like English grammar, ballroom dancing, and traditional candy making.
