I don't exactly fit into the standard social life that I find around me (I'm an atheist in a religious society...), so I decided to chalk up and give the good ol' internet a shot.

What makes me a nerd? Oh, the standard stuff... a love of science fiction and fantasy, interest in the sciences, intelligence, etc. But I try to up the bar a little in these areas... I feel like I need to sift through a whole bunch of schlock in order to find the real gems of science fiction, and I'd take one real gem of a non-geeky movie (like Lawrence of Arabia) over a mountain of the standard 'sci-fi flicks' that pop out each summer.

I'm very musical; I study composition right now in college (as well as Computer Science), and I love playing the piano. I tend toward sophisticated instrumental music (like classical or avant-garde)... but when I want to unwind or exercise, I listen to oldies, classic rock, and even a little bit of country.

Bach, "Dune", "Watership Down", "Ender's Game", Firefly, Cowboy Bebop, DeathNote, Duke Ellington, Walden, John Adams (the composer, not the founding father), "A Series of Unfortunate Events", Asimov, Relativity, 30 rock, "The Once and Future King", Escher, "Godel, Escher, Bach", anything by Raymond Smullyan, the original Star Wars trilogy, chess, any game known to man in which the only two piece colors are black and white (and every piece is identical in shape), Star Trek (I find The Next Generation and Voyager to be decent, if not particularly stellar), the Theory of Evolution, computer programming, Information Theory, Artificial Intelligence, Magic: The Gathering (don't judge me... I don't collect...), cooperative board games, Sandman, Watchmen, Persepolis, Fantasia 2000, Koyaanisqatsi, Ocean's Eleven, Calvin and Hobbes, anything by Ray Bradbury (alt
