.I guess my nerd-dom comes from my fixation with film. It is the majority of my entertainment and (very importantly) I loooove to talk about it.
Of course I also read quite a bit (mostly historical fiction and sci-fi). I have a particular affinity to Lovecraft and Orwell (he wrote much much more that just 1984 and animal farm!).
Beyond these things... the typical nerd image (to me at least) is the stereotypical unkempt/crappy eyeglasses/buck toothed guy that only exists in movies. I suppose a more realistic definition would be someone that has an unusual fixation with subjects that are so specialized, that he/she significantly removes him/herself from the average person. Something like that
