Who said that you can never step into the same river twice? If you don't know, you'll find the answer at the end of this description.My friends call me Leizer (as in lasar beam), from my middle name - Eliezer. Like a lasar beam, I tend to concentrate on one particular point with great intensity, for a while now: Yiddish. Actually I'm interested in all sorts of things - film, music, art, history. I like to travel and to experience other cultures. I've lived in Germany and Italy for a while, next summer I hope to spend in Israel. I love NY because we have so many different people to see and languages to hear - a whole world right at our doorstep.This year I started a doctoral program in Modern Jewish Studies - 20% history, 10% literature, and 70% requirements. As I write these words I am two weeks into my winter break with one paper still to write and am seeking ways to procrastinate. Except on the stage, I tend to be quiet - still waters run deep. However, if our conversation hits a topic I like, I can blather on for hours. I like: furry animals (though still no pets), a walk, little kids, nice people, languages, old books, peanut butter, Hasidic niggunim, the Coen Brothers (I blame them for my time in Minnesota), MOVIES (in general), Yiddish advertising posters, watching ants (except in my apartment), the subway (usually), tragic heroes, cheddar cheese (sharp), the Mddle Ages irony, Daniel Day Lewis, Scarlett Johannson, Nahum Stutchkoff (ask me), radio drama, gargoyles, etymologies, old-timey stuff, etc. My dream is to finish my @#%& dissertation, to fall in love, and to live happily ever after. Not necessarily in that order. And the Greek philosopher who said that thing at the beginning was Heraclitus (the Obscure).

The nerd goddess of my dreams is nice and doesn't make vicious comments about other people. She loves everybody, expecially me. She is very interested in something (or other). If she spoke Yiddish, it would be awesome, but any extra languages are goo
