O, blank slate, you mock me so! I am probably a nerd. Although this is the case, I'm not your typical nerd--no anime for me, thank you.


Typical nerd-things: I'm introverted, could stand to get back into shape (which I am addressing), am highly-educated and -trained, and have taken the time in my life to give myself a "liberal" or "classical" education. This means I'm able to talk about engine blocks in one breath, and history in the next. I like that aspect of myself, and avoid lock-in by being something of a research/information magpie. It keeps things interesting.

I am told that I'm quite socially adept, though I would disagree and though it makes me tired. I would much prefer a quiet gathering with a few friends to a full-blown party. When I go out, I prefer the environment to follow suit: no wild clubbing for me.

I'm looking for a friendship right now; I tend to have few friends, but exceedingly rich and deep relationships with these people, and I don't see that changing. I believe that friendship is a necessary, but insufficient, condition for deeper relationships that follow.

While I'm not opposed to people with less formal training or education than I have, please understand: conversation and communication are important to me. I need someone who can converse and (more often than not) follow me down strange rabbit-holes and segues. You may be a wonderful person--this is great--but if you cannot hold up your end of conversation, and have the insight to know this about yourself, then I don't see things developing. Sorry, but this is an important point and not open to compromise. I do not have a large ego, nor will I actively look down on anyone for this, but I will also not actively pursue a friendship with someone who cannot maintain and cultivate an active, intelligent, and interesting conversation.
