i took an online quiz that said i was a geek, a nerd and a dork.

i agree with this assessment, so long as the words ''star wars'' precede any of the above terms

`I guess I think of myself as a geek because Id rather be featured in Popular Mechanics than Vogue.
Somewhere along the line,I got the impression that geeks are smart but are capable of passing in society. Nerds are smart, but socially awkward. Dorks (including dorkwads) are hopelessly inept, and usually about as bright as dirt.

`ok.... I did the okcupid test today. hmmm... 78 % Nerd, 74% Geek, 52% Dork
Bill would be proud... or very afraid.... they put me in his category of Outcast Genius.
Outcast... ok i buy that, but not so sure about the genius part when it applies to me!

That would be me. Intellectually I am a jack-of-all-trades and a master of none, with tons of (seemingly) useless trivia swirling around in my noggin. I got into tech early on, when I was 8 years old. My folks bought me a Sinclair ZX81, and they got me the 16K memory expansion that went with it. I graduated to a Tandy TRS-80 and then a Commodore 64. I got on my first PC when I was 16, and it was pre-Windows. When I was 18 I got my hands on my first Mac. Since then the ceaseless torrent of tech upgrades, new languages, and new apps has really made my head spin. So now I have several geek friends who run assists for me on tech issues. I'm more of an A/V geek these days than computer geek, but in all honesty I believe I'm more of a nerd.

`The way I see it, nerds are knowledge driven. In high school they're the ones studying all the time getting straight As and generally having no life.
Geeks are very passionate about something, usually something out of the mainstream. There are computer geeks, comic book geeks, video game geeks, art geeks, anime geeks, etc..
Dorks are socially inept.

On The Simpsons, Professor Frink is a nerd, Comic Book Guy is a geek, Ralph Wiggum is a dork.

There is distinct overlap between the three categories. Personally I see myself a nerd and a geek but not a dork.

`Hmm... according to online testing, I come up as geek. I didn't really give a rats --- about school... too steered towards the middle for my taste *boring*. Really, I am Hermoine Granger... hardcore bookworm who knows how to party when I really want to. (Amusingly enough, I'm supposed to be with Neville Longbottom... go figure!) I'm pretty tech inept, but mad wicked on useless trivia, esp. certain subjects.

I love geeks and nerds, but dorks are just hopeless cases. I don't think techie abilities matter so much really... what about the people that need an instruction manual to run gadgets, but go to every Rennissance festival, Star Trek or Wars convention, Historical sites/ reenactments, gaming convention, whatever your nut is?

I'll swear to my dying day I'm a geek, but be damned if I didn't get every reference in White & Nerdy (and made it my first theme song for Myspace)!

`First of all, I love how on the nerdpassions forum, it's not dead like on my other sites. Secondly, I would like to say that I am the lowest of the low on the social scale--I am LDS (Mormon), born and raised. I am proud to say that I am also a nerd as well, actually. Some LDS peple believe that they are not geeks, nerds, etc. and perhaps they are, I just know that my religion has allowed me to be the weirdo of anything I have participated in. My nerd expertise is mostly in literature and obscure facts that no one except me cares about. I live in my own world that exists in novel form on my laptop and rarely come out for air. To make things worse, I am not even at the top of the LDS social scale--I believe that every group is a microcosm that creates its own hierarchy and social roles within itself that exist in the larger groups to which it belongs--and my role among the LDS is that of nerd. It is my lot in life, but I hope to shake off the LDS thing when I move out of my parents' house in August and maybe get a life.
