I grew up in a tough neighborhood. There wasn't much bullying or whatnot since you never know who was carrying what, but I was always a nerd, being a lover of all things trek since i was about 3. After that i just grew into all forms of Sci Fi/Fantasy, so i guess my nerddom was a choice.

`I have nerdy tendencies. I used to be picked on, and I don't think ANYBODY likes that. But now I have nerdy tendencies by choice.

I believe it was more nerd by force for me. In elementry school I was a normal kid, a little heavy on computers so I learned more but it never really made me a nerd. In Junior high I was bullied because of a chronic disease I have that made it very difficult for me to get around and walk and I got labeled "turtle" or "torise" and would constantly get teased, and that just pushed me off from my classmates as a whole with no friends I immersed in compuers and I learned more and more and finally I got to the point where I was just a nerd, I to this day find "normal" people annoying to be around because their conversation is never stimulating and I don't really think they have anything worth saying. So ya, I guess it was more nerd by force then by choice on my part.

I wouldn't say I'm a "closet nerd", but sadly I don't know many smart and interesting people, and where I live isn't exactly abundant with intelligent people. So... most of the time I'm simply acting how normies expect me to act, it's simply easier and to be honest I'm used to it.

`I was probably born a nerd, too. I never really "decided" to be one, lol. I grew up going to Star Trek conventions and learning about NASA and the space shuttle from my Dad, so it was just inescapable nerd destiny.

Nerd by choice and damn proud of it.
At first glance people don't think I'm a nerd.

`I would say I am a nerd by choice. I am academic nerd by nature but I choose to subscribe to the cultural aspects of nerdom as I find this group to be, on average, the most stimulating and genuine.
(However, I was named after the forest in LOTR so, in retrospect, I was probably doomed...)

`I am a nerd by choice, always been a fan of everything nerdy/geeky. As I got older my love for all these things only grew, much to the dismay of my parents haha

`I love a lot of nerdy stuff, but I'm still not even sure if I qualify. Nobody ever bullied me about it or anything, and come to think of it, only my closest friends have ever even called me a nerd - to which I promptly replied, "Your face is a nerd."

`I grew up being "the ugly kid". I was never bullied but knew my place and remained a little bit of a loner. It never bothered me, I loved reading and playing videogames. I also got into metal music at a young age and taught myself how to play guitar, so I managed to keep busy. By the time I entered high school I started to change a little and... 'grew into my face' (best way to describe it I suppose). I was a little awkward at this point and extremely shy. During my second year of university, it happened: the skinny little girl filled out. But I've never let go of myself and never try to be anyone else, I'm still that nerdy gamer that likes to throw out random biology facts while drinking. Tl;dr Nerd by choice

By choice. Most of my friends have been nerds and geeks, and they introduced me to things that made me feel like me. Combine that with my natural introvert-edness and shyness, plus reading and writing as natural born interests, I'd say it was more choice than anything.
I love being a nerd. AND a geek.
That's right. I went there.

`I would have to say I'm a nerd by choice, all the way. I don't really know how I got this way. I like a lot of "non-nerdy" stuff as well as nerdy stuff but I just really like the nerd culture and identify most with it, I suppose. Neither of my parents are nerds in any sense really, my brother was a Trekkie but I didn't really pick up on that, I'm more of a Star Wars girl. My tastes just run towards nerd I guess. I was never bullied or anything, I get along with people just fine.
Nerd by choice.
